Pedro gladly accepted the chocolate chip cookie offered to him. He held it up to his nose and smelled the sugary treat—something very rare in his poor Mexican village.

His brothers and sisters considered themselves blessed if they received a meager portion of beans and rice for dinner.

The pastor who presented the cookie was not prepared for Pedro’s reaction. After thanking the pastor, Pedro turned to his five brothers and sisters. He began to break the small cookie up into tiny pieces, offering each of his siblings an equal portion.

In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity (2 Corinthians 8:2).

Pedro’s generosity forever changed the pastor. Never before had he witnessed such selfless giving. A cookie in the hands of a generous boy yielded life-changing results that day.
