The task of church leaders is to help people mature in Christ.

Hebrews 13:17 Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.

No true Leader is there to “Lord” over anyone (there is but one Lord), rather Leaders do just as the name implies – Lead. Also it’s imperative that we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and not on man, even Paul said “Follow me as I follow Christ.”

Even the best Leader has faults, this does not discount His/Her impact or effectiveness, but it should serve as a valuable lesson – know the WORD for yourself. While it is extremely important to have Godly Leaders it does not replace or excuse laity from the responsibility of “study to show thyself approved.”

Cooperative followers greatly ease the burden of leadership. Does your conduct give your leaders reason to report joyfully about you?
