Oh, the awesomeness of God, from the beautiful scenery, the laughter of the little ones, the smiles of the elders, and the sheer joy of serving. It has been an exciting yet exhausting week.
The Chapter House asked for assistance with the ladies that sew. This was a first-time request, as this has been a closed-door in prior years. I can honestly say that we were not very welcome the first day as the Navajo ladies did not know what to expect, and neither did we. But I immediately identified areas in their sewing and quilting where they needed assistance and actually finished a quilt during the evening during my free time for them. This seemed to break the ice, and soon we were telling each other our stories of no running water, outdoor facilities, deep snow, etc. We quickly bonded to the point where they brought me vintage sewing machines to repair. Already they are looking me up on Facebook to pursue our relationship. I simply love these ladies and hope to be a support and a witness to them in the future.
I would be remiss if I did not mention our exceptional youth. It was heartwarming to see them bond and love on the children as they came to Kids’ Club. Every youth had a favorite child that was either wrapped around their neck or carried on their shoulders. I truly believe that this trip has impacted them for a lifetime.
Praying for a safe trip home tomorrow.
